HE WALKS 5 MILES DAILY WITH KIDS' MEALS

Updated: Apr 13

An assistant headteacher in England, Zan Powels, came up with a way to ensure his pupils still have access to free school meals – he walks more than 5 miles a day to deliver them by hand. Each day he carries bags with meals that weigh more than 40 pounds, along with homework for 78 students. Forty-one per cent of children at the Western Primary School are entitled to free school meals, since 34 per cent of children are at the poverty level in Grimsby. He also uses the opportunity to do daily welfare checks on the kids. Two other teachers take turns bringing an additional 25 lunches by car to families who live further out.
